NEW YORK (MarketWatch) - U.S. stocks on Friday started sharply lower, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average extending into an eighth day its longest-losing streak since 2002, as fears escalated that the trauma in the credit markets could pave the way to a global recession. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 503.38 points to 8,075.81. The S&P 500 dropped 41.37 points to 868.55, while the Nasdaq Composite shed 69.93 points to 1,575.19.
